When a Comfy Chair is Sacred Place

If you are like me, you are not always aware of the change to daylight savings time. Today was that day for me. It's fall, so it's time to fall back. I had an extra hour I didn't know I had. I got up this morning rushing around trying to get everything ready for church, and I was an hour early.

The thought occurred to me that there are specific dedicated places for the worship of God, for connecting with God and for partnering with God, for creating conditions for us to hear his voice. I thought of Moses who was called up to the mountain and saw the burning bush, and then he took his shoes off because he knew that the ground that he stepped on was holy ground, that God was there.

We can actually create a place like that for us here on earth, in our own everyday life when we are wanting to partner with God, when we're connecting with Him. So, for example, I have a couple of clients who have created a sacred space. One is a meditation space in nature outside, in her yard right next to her house. She put a little bench there and she's got some plants, and it's just this cute little, little tiny space, but it's hers, and it is a meditation space for her to be able to connect with God. And that is her space where she goes, her place where she goes when she wants to connect with God and partner with him.

And then I have another client who didn't feel a hundred percent safe in her home. There was some emotional and mental abuse happening in the house. I suggested to her that she find a place that she could kind of create like a sanctuary where just her kids and she were able to go to feel safe. She did that. She took that to heart, and she created a room. I can't remember exactly what she called it, but it was like a little piece of heaven for her, and her kids would go there. And it just was a place where everybody in the family that wanted to feel that safety and security of and the peace of connecting with God and partnering with God and feeling the love of God was drawn to that room.

The energy that's created is because of dedication. Dedicating the space is what creates the opportunity for God to come and for us to commune spirit to spirit with him. I also thought of a lot of ideas that started coming to me about where we have dedicated holy spaces, churches, and temples. In my religious culture, we dedicate grave sites for protection until Christ comes and calls the dead forth to for that final restoration of body and spirit, the resurrection. So cemeteries can even be a place where you can go that have had spaces dedicated, places dedicated for the spirit of God to be present there and angels to be present there. One time under the direction of a mentor, I went to a cemetery to proclaim my life's mission. He took me to a cemetery because he said that it was the place where there's the most unfulfilled potential, because people die a lot of times with their music unplayed.

I went there and specifically discounted a tree to be with. It was such a quiet, peaceful place that it really did feel like it was a dedicated space for me to be able to confidently proclaim the music that I needed to play before I passed away someday. So that was kind of a cool experience. Some of these that I wrote down, I just want to see if there's any others that I wanted to share with you. I remember when I first started doing my Daily GPS, I had what I called a creating chair. It was just a chair, and the only time I sat in it, it was kind of a comfy chair. The only time I sat in that chair was in the morning when I was doing my Daily GPS. So I called it my creating chair.

Literally every time I would sit, it was like just the act of sitting in the chair. I would immediately be in that frame of mind and the frame of heart to be able to receive inspiration. So it doesn't have to be anything really big. I have noticed that there are places in nature where I can go that I feel very close to God when I hike, when I'm up in the mountains. I can even be with a group, but there's something about just being in the mountains for me that really invites Christ and God's spirit to be with me. I feel a lot of peace and just appreciation for nature, the creations of God and everything. So nature is a really good place for me to go to feel that. The key is to dedicate the time and the space to be able to connect with God and to partner with him.

When I think about doing this, the problem that we have in the world is that the world is really loud and we have so much business going on. In fact, sometimes in our own homes, if we have a lot of people in our homes, a lot of activities going on, sometimes it's even hard to find a place in our own homes where we feel like we can partner with God. I know for me, it was important for me to get up at 5:00 AM, because nobody else in my house was up at that time. I could go sit in my creating chair, and it would be completely quiet and peaceful. That was the time that I chose. I'm almost an empty nester now. One of our daughters did come back and live with us for a little while, but she sleeps in late.

So I can get up a little later if I want to, and I can still have that peace. But for a lot of us, it's not possible. In fact, I went to an event that another creator put on just last week, and she said, we were closing our eyes and we were envisioning something like meditation. And she said, go to a place where you feel safe and that's very peaceful. I couldn't find a place, like in my mind I was like, I can't find a place where I feel that I have my office where I come and do my Daily GPS, but for some reason it just didn't feel like I could find that place. That was just a real kind of eye opener for me, that I've let my life get so busy that when I close my eyes and meditate, I have a hard time finding a dedicated space to be able to connect with God.

Sometimes everything is busy with everything we really need to do, the solution is for us to actually dedicate a space and time to connect with God. Today, for me, I'll just share with you, my space and time is going to be at church today. Because after I had this idea of dedicated spaces, I'm like, 'All right, when I go to church today, I know that that church building was actually dedicated to the worship of God and for the purpose of connecting with God. So I'm going to go with the intention that I'm stepping into a holy place, stepping on holy ground where God is, to see what I can learn and see what I can get from my time in church today. You could try that. Or if you're not going to church today, you could maybe find a place in nature or use that time today to dedicate a space within your home or find a place that feels really good for you, even if you're not actually going there specifically to connect with God, but take the time to create the space.

Today I don't have an actual exercise that we're going to do, but I do want to give you an invitation to do your exercise of connecting with God in your dedicated space. Suppose you don't have a dedicated space to use that time to create a dedicated space today. Take a picture of that saved space, and then if you feel so inclined, you could also maybe share something, maybe some gold nugget that you received today from being in your dedicated space and partnering with God, connecting with God today in your dedicated space.
